January 27 to February 5, 2012:

Sergio will be in Sierra Leone, West Africa to document the work being done by Tom Johnson of Africa Surgery. This is the charity currently being sponsored by Photos by Sergio.  Africa Surgery is a Morristown,NJ-based charity that facilitates health care efforts in Sierra Leone.

March/April 2012:

Get ready for Spring photo shooting by attending Sergio's classes: 

ON YOUR WAY TO ADVANCED AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY - PARTS 1 & 2

This two-part course will prime you to become an Advanced Amateur Photographer, making the most of your Digital SLR camera (with interchangeable lenses).  You will learn to dramatically improve the quality of your output by fully exploiting the capabilities of your equipment and by adopting a quality-oriented workflow.  Specifically:

PART 1 – This course will deal with Camera Capture Techniques, such as:

  • how to manage camera settings.
  • what lenses to use and when.
  • best shooting practices and key composition principles.
  • which accessories are critical and which are not.
The course will focus primarily on Nikon and Canon hardware, but principles will apply to all DSLR cameras.
  • First and third class: classroom instruction on 2 successive weekday evenings 7 to 9 PM
  • Second class: photo outing on a Saturday morning
  • Price: $79


PART 2 – This course will deal with post-capture image processing, such as:
    •    advanced editing for spectacular results.
    •    cataloging best practices to easily retrieve your images.
    •    showing your best work (prints, slideshows, websites).

Students will need to install Adobe Photoshop Lightroom V.3 on their computer – the 30-day trial version will suffice.  Installation instructions will be provided before the first class.

Students will have the option of taking PART 2 right following PART 1, for a complete academic path to Advanced Amateur Photography, or wait until the following semester, to better suit their busy schedules.
